Around Achnasheen - things to do and see

Located on the main Inverness to Kyle railway line, Achnasheen is only around an hour away by train. By car it's approximately 45 minutes, but we promise you it will take longer, because you'll want to stop and look at the fantastic views enroute.

Achnasheen gets the name from 'field of the storm' and while it is no more prone to wind and rain than anywhere else in Scotland, there is very little shelter around. It is literally in the middle of the Scottish Highlands, about half way between Inverness and Kyle of Lochalsh.

The station here used to be an important stop on the Kyle of Lochalsh Line, serving a large area of Wester Ross.

Only about 30 people live in Achnasheen

Achnasheen is a regular stopping off point for coach tours of Wester Ross.

There is a lot of good walking around Achnasheen as the village is close to Ledgowan Forest, Glencarron and Glenuig Forest, Kinlochewe Forest and Strathconon.
